Halifornia

Maggie pretended she was going to "Halifornia" this morning. (It's located at the bottom of my bed under the covers, if you're wondering).

What were you thinking?

This isn't a quote, but I wanted it on the record.

I came around the corner to behold Joshua with shoe boxes on his feet at the top of the steps. He was on the top step with the box half over the edge getting ready to "ski" down the steps. Thank goodness I caught him before he took his little trip down the "mountain". What in the world was he thinking? These boys are committed to shortening my life.

Pastor Peter Parker

I was explaining to the boys that we are going to have a guest speaker at church this morning named Mr. Dave Harvey (from the Sovereign Grace leadership team). Caleb then said, "Mom, do you wish Peter Parker (his mild obsession) would preach?" I said, "you mean, John Piper (my mild obsession)?" "Oh yeah, is that his name?" But wouldn't it be every seven year old's fantasy that the preacher was really Spider man in disguise?

poisonous snakes

Maggie informed me yesterday that if you eat a poisonous snake, it could kill you. (she also told me she has eaten one a couple of times, and almost died - should I be concerned?) So the next time I'm having snake for dinner, I'll be sure it is not the poisonous type.

Crunches

I was asking my 6 year old, Israel, to summarize the chapter I just read from The Door in the Wall. He said, "The boy who couldn't walk was going to get crunches to help him get around."

Hot Together Wormy

We just came back from the Spring Concert for the church school. (My niece and nephew did a great job, of course!) One of the songs Sierra's class sang is a worship song that goes like this:

You're altogether lovely,
Altogether worthy,
Altogether wonderful to me.

But not in Maggie's world. She was singing it like this when we got home:

Hot together wormy
Hot together love me
Hot together love me and my God.

Breast is Best

I was babysitting my niece, Iris today. I took all of the kids outside this afternoon. The boys were riding bikes and skateboards; the girls were pushing their baby dolls in stroller and grocery cart. It was great! Anyway, I was helping one of the boys mount a bike the next size up, when I turned to look at the girls. Both of them had their shirts pulled up and the baby dolls faces to their belly. I asked what they were doing. "We're feeding them," they both replied. Glad to know they are already convinced that breast is best.

Dr. Piper/ Dr. Phil

This morning at breakfast I was listening to John Piper teach on part of Romans 6. Izzy asked, "Is that preacher named John?" I said yes. Josh asked, "John Piper?" I said, "yes, he's one of mommy's favorite preachers." Josh said, "what about Dr. Phil?" I am cringing right now.

Minivan Moments: Heaven

On our way home from Target this morning, Caleb, 7, was expounding the glories of heaven to Maggie, 3, who stated before that she didn't ever want to die. Included in his list of persuasions was the fact that not only did Heaven have golden streets, but in Heaven, you never have to go to the bathroom!

Izzy Crawling

Izzy, who is now 6 years old, used to crawl on his hands and feet. It was the cutest thing. He was such a happy little guy. He literally used to walk around saying, "I'm so happy!" Out of the clear blue sky. He is so precious! Posted by Hello

Rub-A-Dub-Dub

Rub-a-dub-dub three little men in a tub! This is when the twins were almost two, and izzy was ten months old. We went to New Orleans (flew out before the twins cost airfare) to visit my grandparents. It was so hot we put them in this little baby pool under the patio. They played in it for hours. I wish I could jump into this picture and give those chubby bodies just one more squeeze! vegetarian veterinarian

Caleb was having trouble reading a story problem in math today. He read the word "veterinarian" as "vegetarian". It reminded me of a couple years back when Josh told me he wanted to be a vegetarian when he grew up. When I asked why, he said, "so I can take care of animals."

Information Junkie

Last night my son Caleb happened to come into my bedroom on one of the rare occassions that the news was on. I turned it off after a minute or two. Caleb said, "Mom, I need to watch the news so I can get more information."

Girl Power

After church today, Joshua was showing me his muscles (something I experience many times a week between the three boys). I was oo-ing and ah-ing over how big they were when Maggie showed me hers. I oo-ed and ah-ed for her too. The she stretched her hands wide and said with gusto, "Oh Yeah! Girl Power!" And the quest for femininity (apart from obsessive hair brushing) continues.

Klara, the potato bug

Today Maggie found a potato bug in Grammy's back yard. She named her (surprise) Klara.

Raisin Brand

According to Joshua we had "raisin brand" for breakfast this morning.

I'm the best

Maggie was laying next to me on the floor in the boys' room (resting after going through all of the winter clothes they outgrew). She leaned over, took her fingers out of her mouth (she sucks middle and fourth), and whispered to me, "You're the best." It made my day...of course, she did lick my arm after right after, and I'm not quite sure what to think of that; but still, it was sweet.

Egg-lanta, Georgia

This morning the boys were looking at their baseball player collectables. Joshua told Izzy, "He plays for the Egg-lanta Braves."

Rocket Star

Last night (while we were celebrating mother's day) my mother-in-law asked my daughter what she wanted to be when she grew up to which Maggie replied, "a rocket star". Confused, my mother-in-law asked for clarification. Maggie responded, "You know, Abuela, they sing on the stage and all."

Doing Pride

I was explaining to Maggie, who is recently obssessed with brushing her hair, that vanity is a form of pride. Her response, "Izzy (boy #3) do's pride too." I suppose we are all "doing" pride in some way or other.

Klara, the bionicle

My 3 yr. old daughter Maggie, youngest with three older brothers, just walked up to me with an ugly green bionicle and said, "This is Klara, my bionicle." (Named after the girl in Heidi) I venture to say she's one of a kind.
